Denim Fit Guide
Finding the right pair of jeans starts with knowing your measurements and understanding how each style is designed to fit. This guide is built from the actual products in our collection — no guesswork, no generic sizing charts.
How to Measure Yourself
For the most accurate fit, use a soft measuring tape and measure over your undergarments or lightweight clothing.
- Waist: Measure around the narrowest part of your natural waist, typically 1–2 inches above your belly button.
- Hips: Measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
- Inseam: Measure from your crotch seam down to where you want the hem to fall.
- Rise: Measure from the front waistband down through the crotch to the back waistband. This determines where the jean sits on your body.
Understanding Rise
Rise tells you where the waistband will sit on your body. Here's how our collection breaks down by rise:
- High Waist / High Rise — Sits at or above the natural waist. Styles in this category: Funky Soul Side Seam Studs Straight Leg Jean, Funky Soul Rhinestone Straight Leg High Rise Skinny Jean.
- Mid Rise — Sits between the hip bone and the natural waist. This is the most common rise in our collection and applies to the majority of our Funky Soul jeans, including the MOXIE Flare, RACHEL Paisley Flare, AURORA Flare, ELSA Wide Leg, GIULIA Belted Cropped, SOFIE Barrel, SOFIE Belted Straight Leg, AYLA Barrel (Rhinestone and Black Rhinestone), ARLO Godet Wide Leg, OLIVIA Skinny, LOUISE Belted Wide Leg, AVA Metallic Straight Leg, AVA Wide Cuff Straight Leg, Rhinestone & Pearl Straight Leg, Angled Pocket Barrel, Beaded Stretch Skinny, and the Floral Print Wide Leg jeans.
- Sits at Waist — Designed to sit at the natural waist (higher than mid rise). Styles: Funky Soul Side Floral Embroidered Wide Leg Jean, Funky Soul Godet Side Panel Wide Leg Jean (ARLO).
Sizing Note
The Funky Soul Floral Print Ankle Length Wide Leg Jean (LOLITA) runs large — order one size down. This is the only product in our collection where a fit note is confirmed in the product description.

Inseam measurements are only provided for select styles. Do not assume inseam length for styles not listed here.

Sizing Systems in Our Collection
Our denim uses two different sizing systems — here's how to tell them apart:
- Numeric waist sizing (24–35): Used for all Funky Soul jeans. The number corresponds to your waist measurement in inches. Some styles also show a US size equivalent in parentheses — for example, 26 (3), 27 (5), 28 (7) — as seen on the Beaded Stretch Skinny and Rhinestone High Rise Skinny styles.
- Standard letter sizing (XS–XL or S/M/L): Used for Casa Negra non-Funky-Soul bottoms (Stretch Self Belt Flare Jean, Pleated Barrel Jean, Floral Beaded Denim Shorts) and all tops, jackets, and dresses.
Fabric & Stretch: What to Expect
The amount of stretch and how a jean may soften or shift over time depends heavily on fabric content. Here's a breakdown by category:
High Cotton (Minimal Stretch)
These styles are 90–100% cotton and will have little to no stretch. They may soften slightly with wear but are less forgiving in fit. Expect them to hold their shape well.

Elastane / Spandex Blend (Stretch)
These styles contain elastane or spandex and will have noticeable stretch and recovery. They are more forgiving for in-between sizes and form-fitting silhouettes.

Lyocell / Tencel Blend (Soft Drape)
These styles use lyocell (also called Tencel) for a softer, drapier feel. They tend to be lighter weight and may feel less structured than traditional denim.

Care Instructions by Style
Always follow the care label on your garment. The instructions below are sourced directly from product descriptions.
- Machine Wash Inside Out: Funky Soul Beaded Stretch Skinny Jean, Funky Soul Rhinestone High Rise Skinny Jean, Floral Embroidered Denim Jacket
- Machine Wash: All other jeans, jackets, vests, skirts, and the Funky Soul Lyocell Dress
- Hand Wash Only: Gracia Lace Up Denim Dress
Washing inside out is recommended for dark washes and embellished styles to preserve color and protect decorative details like rhinestones, beading, and embroidery.
Shrinkage & Stretching
No shrinkage or stretching percentages are confirmed in our product data, so we won't publish estimates that could mislead you. As a general guide:
- Higher cotton content = slightly more potential for shrinkage on first wash; wash cold to minimize.
- Elastane/spandex blends tend to stretch and recover through wear but may lose some elasticity over time with heat drying.
- Lyocell blends are best washed in cool water and laid flat or hung to dry to maintain shape.
- When in doubt, size up and allow for shrinkage, or size down if the fabric has notable stretch.
